PROJECTS IN INTERCULTURAL CONTEXTS

Idea + Charter

Since 2009, we have been working as a French and German-speaking theatre
specialists in various educational organizations and institutions. Together with
children, young people or adults, we create and perform theatre in French and
German, promoting language learning and the development of intercultural
skills. In addition, we provide training on how theatre techniques can be used in
foreign language teaching or in a multicultural environment.

Theatre and language are combined through theatre practice pedagogy. We
perform theatre in French and German and let the foreign language be
experienced in order to internalize it and eventually master the language. At the
same time, we learn more about ourselves, our fellow colleagues and friends,
our interpersonal interactions within theatre practice and build our intercultural
skills. Together with our pedagogical team, we have laid down the techniques
and goals of our theatre pedagogy in our charter.

Before each workshop and training session, we put together a personalized
adapted program for your project. In doing so, we take into account age,
language level, group size, time period and context and always respond to
special wishes or interests.

people the German and /or French language through theatre practice to develop

THEATRICAL PLAY

Dare to speak German or French! Through playful expressive exercises, we
experiment with the language to improve confidence in self-expression and
encourage spontaneity.

THEATRE PLAY FROM A TO Z

Show time! We discover the tools of the actor/actress – body and voice, space
and characters – and experiment together in staging, rehearsing and finally
performing… A complete project in German or French!

IMPRO THEATRE

We play impro theatre! In an introduction to improvisation theatre we learn to
listen, react and interact – in everyday and non-everyday situations. We use all
ideas and forms of expression.

SCRIPT

We also explore theatre through text! The teacher can suggest a text that we
work on together using the tools of the actor/actress.

Thealingua comes to your institution to introduce you to theatre as a language
learning and intercultural connection tool.

In our training workshops, you can develop your own language skills and prepare
yourself for intercultural contexts and encounters. The training courses
introduce you to ways you can use theatre to bring different people closer to a
foreign language and to promote the development of intercultural skills.

BODY, VOICE AND SPACE:

We show you how to apply the tools of acting to use body, voice and space in
front of a group of people.

We show you different ways of directing your participants on stage and using

SPEECH MOTIVATION:

We work on overcoming the fear of language mistakes and gaining confidence
to communicate in a foreign language (German to French / French to English /
…) through various theatre exercises.

We introduce you to the planning, creation, directing and performance of a play
in a foreign language (German to French / French to English / …).

The development and realization of a play in a foreign language is an

REFERENCES

Since 2009 under the name La Ménagerie and since 2014 under the name
Thealingua, we have been active as French and German-speaking theatre
educators and practitioners, supporting children, young people and adults in
learning German and French and developing intercultural skills through theatre
practice.
We have already helped and satisfied more than 80 institutions and
organizations with our interventions.

OUR GERMAN/FRENCH TEAM

Thealingua is made up of a professional and diverse team of French and/or
German native speakers.

We have pedagogical training and many years of practical experience in theatre
and language pedagogy, with children and young people as well as adults.

The different focuses and multidisciplinary skills of our pedagogical team enable
us to cover a wide range of topics and groups. Thus, we can implement French /
German language theatre with children, young people, students or adults and
support educators and teachers in kindergartens, schools or universities with
foreign language teaching. We also take into account the specific context and
interests of your project. We can change the focus of the workshops to music,
literature, dance or writing, for example.

Through continuous education around the topics of pedagogy, languages,
theatre and interculturality, as well as active involvement in relevant networks,
we are able to constantly expand our work with exciting and relevant topics. As
theatre educators and practitioners, we take into account the ever changing
world in our work.
